                  Diana, Princess of Wales (born Diana Frances Spencer; 1 July 1961 – 31 August 1997), was a member of the British royal family. She was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, the heir apparent to the British throne, and the mother of Prince William and Prince Harry.     

                                                                                                                                                                                                   Diana's activism and glamour made her an international icon and earned her an enduring popularity as well as an unprecedented public scrutiny, exacerbated by her tumultuous private life.

Diana, Princess of Wales was known for her compassion, her generosity and her commitment to helping others. She was also known for her grace, her wit, and her sense of style. She was warm, genuine, and had a great sense of Humour. She was a passionate advocate for those who were less fortunate and she was a passionate environmentalist. She was a determined and hardworking individual who was devoted to her family and to her causes.

FAMILY:

  • Diana was born into the Spencer family, a family of British nobility with royal ancestry.
  • Her father was John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer and her mother was Frances Shand Kydd.
  • Diana had two older sisters, Sarah and Jane, and a younger brother, Charles.
  • After her parents divorced in 1969, Diana and her siblings continued to remain close with both her parents.

DIVORCE:

After a long and difficult marriage, Princess Diana and Prince Charles divorced in 1996. The divorce was widely reported in the media and sparked a lot of debate over the royal family. Diana was granted a lump sum settlement of £17 million and kept her title of "Her Royal Highness." She also kept her apartment at Kensington Palace, which she later often used as a base for her charity work. Following the divorce, Diana remained active in public life and continued to champion many causes.



CHARITY:

Princess Diana was a passionate philanthropist and was involved with a variety of charities. She was a patron of many organizations, including the National AIDS Trust, the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, the Leprosy Mission, and the Royal Marsden Hospital. She was also a strong advocate for the rights of the disabled and often visited hospitals and shelters to talk with those affected by disability. Additionally, Diana was a major supporter of the charities Great Ormond Street Hospital and Centrepoint, which helps homeless people.


DEATH:

                                  On August 31, 1997, Princess Diana died in a tragic car accident in Paris. Her death sparked an unprecedented global outpouring of grief and admiration. Millions of people around the world mourned the loss of the beloved princess, and her death was marked by a public funeral attended by dignitaries and royalty from around the world. Dianas legacy lives on through her charity work, her style and grace, and her advocacy for social causes.
